SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — What was once an open field in Sherman is now the future of high-tech manufacturing.
GlobalWafers America has officially opened its doors at the corner of US 75 and FM 1417, bringing the heart of the semiconductor industry to North Texas.
The company marked a major milestone with the grand opening of its silicon wafer manufacturing plant in Sherman — a project that has been three years in the making.
The high technology center broke ground in December 2022. The GlobalWafers America project and engineering director said a shortage of computer chips and the federal CHIPS Act led the Taiwan-based manufacturing firm to expand its US footprint in Sherman.
