Your Workforce Training Needs Are Met in Sherman
Sherman businesses benefit from extensive access to workforce programs including career fairs, new and existing employee training, and student workforce development.
Student Workforce Development Programs
Our students are our future. SEDCO actively partners with the Denison Development Alliance, Grayson College, Workforce Solutions Texoma, area Independent School Districts, and manufacturers in an effort to develop a talent pipeline of middle-skills workers for Advanced Manufacturing occupations. These efforts include:
- The Advanced Manufacturing Program (AMP ) is a unique dual credit initiative within the Texoma area that allows students to enroll in college courses starting as early as the 10th grade. Students learn skills unique to Advanced Manufacturing and gain real-world, hands-on training through an industry-driven curriculum. Upon completion of the program, students can go directly into the workforce while continuing their education at Grayson College or a four-year institution. Learn more here.
- The Industrial Maintenance Technician (IMT ) Program provides high school seniors a $4,200 scholarship, covering books and tuition for one school year, allowing them to earn a Certificate in Industrial Maintenance Technology Level 1 from Grayson College.
- The Center for Workplace Learning at Grayson College works to partner with local Sherman companies to design customized training programs for new employees. Designated Grayson College staff work with company personnel and equipment manufacturers to develop and implement curriculum for the specific skills needed in their facilities.
- The Business Education for Teachers & Counselors Program provides a unique opportunity for teachers to receive hands-on experience during a one-week externship at an area business or industry. The participating teachers then use their experiences to enhance their curriculum and share their gained knowledge with their students.
Career & Technical Education Program
The Sherman Independent School District (SISD) Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program cultivates the potential in students by integrating rigorous classroom instruction with relevant, work-based experiences that inspire, guide, and empower Bearcats for post-secondary college and career success. Offering 30 approved industry-based certifications, the SISD CTE Program can launch students into careers right out of high school.
SISD is in partnership with Grayson College to offer juniors and seniors some amazing dual credit opportunities for the CTE Programs including the Advanced Manufacturing Program, the Industrial Maintenance Technician Program, and welding.
