Students Have the Choices and Resources to Succeed in Sherman
Located in the heart of the Texoma area, Sherman Independent School District (SISD) is the largest and fastest-growing school district in Grayson County, serving more than 7,500 students across 13 campuses. The school district is the heartbeat of our community which proudly believes in the hometown motto, “Building Bearcats.”
SISD offers 22 career and technology education certifications, competitive athletic teams, and award-winning high school and middle school fine arts programs. The district has a 94% graduation rate and is home to one of the longest-running, early childhood centers in Grayson County. Additionally, Sherman High School has been named to the U.S. News and World Report’s Best High Schools list and has been recognized as one of the Washington Post’s Most Challenging High Schools in America. These recognitions place SHS in the top 8% of schools across the nation.
In 2021, SISD welcomed students at its newly constructed high school with a second 6th-8th grade middle school campus opening at the previous SHS. These changes have increased classroom space, provided capacity for current and future enrollment growth, improved academic, fine arts, athletics, career and technology education programs, and will serve generations of Bearcats to come.
Friday Night Lights in Grayson County
You can’t live in Texas and not get swept up in the Friday Night Lights. The biggest game of the season is the legendary Battle of the Ax game between Sherman and Denison. Originating in 1901, the Battle of the Ax is the longest continuous rivalry among Texas high schools.
