As Sherman moves forward with nearly $600 million of water and sewer infrastructure improvements, it will be seeking financial assistance from its economic development arm. The Sherman Economic Development Corp. Board of Directors voted Tuesday to set aside up to $11 million of funding for infrastructure improvements by the city.
The $11 million can be used toward multiple water and sewer improvements in south Sherman that could support nearly $35 billion in industrial development by Texas Instruments and GlobalWafers in addition to multiple industrial parks operated by SEDCO.
Since 2021, the city has pursued multiple improvements to its water and sewer infrastructure to increase capacity in order to support the added demands from TI, GlobalWafers and other Industrial users.
“Neither GlobalWafers nor TI would have been able to come in here without them doing that, and there were some surprise costs along the way,” SEDCO President Kent Sharp said.
