After four years of incentivizing entrepreneurs, the Sherman Economic Development is reevaluating one of its programs. SEDCO officials announced Tuesday that the economic developer will be reformatting its RISE program.
The announcement came as a part of the annual joint meeting between SEDCO and the Sherman City Council in which both organizations discussed SEDCO’s annual plan of work and its budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
“The major change is that we are going to go from being an annual competition to just being a traditional grant program for SEDCO,”SEDCO Chief Financial Officer Ashton Bellows said. “So, just like our normal SEDCO grants … it will turn into a RISE grant, and we will still work with our program partners.”
SEDCO launched its RISE program as a part of updates to its program of work that added a focus area toward providing support for entrepreneurs and new businesses. The same update added support for women-owned, and minority-owned businesses. This effort would eventually evolve into the WOMO program, which continues to this day.
