Tyson Foods will receive some assistance for an upcoming expansion of its facilities in Sherman. The Sherman Economic Development Corp. board of directors voted unanimously to approve a $600,000 incentive for the food packaging plant when it met Tuesday morning for its regular monthly meeting.

The incentive package comes as Tyson plans to invest $20 million in its Sherman facilities in order to add production lines for chicken products to the facility’s offerings.

“They’ve been one of the largest employers for a long time along with Emerson, Eaton,” SEDCO President Kent Sharp said Tuesday. “The community has been kind of focused on TI (Texas Instruments) and GlobalWafers, but SEDCO has been focused on the industries that have been here for years.”

According to meeting documents, Tyson has produced beef and pork case-ready products out of its Sherman facilities since 2006. With this $20 million investment, Tyson plans to move an existing product line and install three new production lines in its Sherman facility. Refrigeration will also be added to the production space.
