Local business representatives, non-profits and community leaders came together to pay respect and say thank you to members of the Douglass family Thursday night for their continued contributions to the community. Members of the family announced the sale of the various parts of Douglass Distributing earlier this fall, with multiple members of the family preparing the retire after long careers.
Outside of business, the Douglass family and Douglass Distributing has remained active throughout the community by taking part in numerous civic groups and supporting many of the region’s non-profit and charitable organizations.
“I have been blessed to be a part of the community, and the community has been very good to us,” Bill Douglass said Thursday night.
Douglass, who had previously been an executive with Exxon, purchased a bulk plant from the company and put down roots in Sherman in 1981. Early on, the company started with a chain of eight service stations, but this expanded over time into the wide network it is today.
