The ongoing growth in Sherman from large-scale, high-tech development was the center of attention during roundtable discussions with state and local leaders Tuesday morning. Gov. Abbott spoke Tuesday during Sherman’s second annual Mayor’s Economic Roundtable, which saw both state and business representatives give an update on the economic climate in both Texoma and Texas at large.

Abbott focused his comments primarily on the economy and reforms aimed at offering tax relief to taxpayers.

“I have never seen the Sherman-Denison, Grayson County area look so robust, forward leaning, growing, expanding and so connected economically as you are now,” he said, applauding local leaders and economic developers.

Throughout his address to local business owners and representatives, Abbott mentioned the nearly $35 billion of high-tech projects taking place in Texoma through Texas Instruments and GlobalWafers.

In late 2021, Texas Instruments announced plans to pursue a new $30 billion semiconductor production site near its existing plant. The new facility is currently scheduled to begin production in 2025. A year later, GlobalWafers announced plans to build a $5 billion facility in Sherman that would focus on the production of silicon wafers, a component of semi-conductor production.

“We had a meeting to the side with leaders of GlobiTech, as well as other businesses that I’ve been able to talk to about expanding in the greater Grayson County area,” Abbott said, recalling the groundbreaking of the Texas Instruments site. “I just want to make everyone here understands the prolific role played by your local economic development leaders. You are among the very best in the state of Texas.”
