The Sherman Economic Development Corp has joined Grayson County in financing the fight against a proposed cement kiln and quarry operation near Sherman. The SEDCO Board of Directors voted unanimously Tuesday to approve up to $100,000 in funding for legal services and other resources related to the legal fight over the kiln.
Tuesday’s action marks the first direct action by SEDCO in opposition to the kiln project, which is being helmed by BM Dorchester LLC. Last month, SEDCO leadership voiced their opposition to the project but did not move forward with any action related to opposing the kiln.
City, county and business leaders have previously expressed concerns that the development of the kiln and quarry operation could jeopardize incoming growth in the area, including more than $35 billion of high-tech industrial facilities currently being built within Sherman through increased emissions and seismic activity related to blasting operations.
