Artist Statement My work is a vibrant exploration of the natural world, shaped by my fascination with movements such as Fauvism, Impressionism, Expressionism, and Surrealism. Inspired by artists like Franz Marc, Marc Chagall, and Georgia O'Keeffe, I create compositions that use complementary and analogous colors to explore light and texture. I primarily work with gouache and watercolor on wood panels or 100% handmade cotton paper, materials that help me balance complexity with serenity in each piece. The subjects I choose come from photographs I take in national parks and at landmarks, places that capture the dynamism of nature through vivid color palettes. Lately, I have been drawn to rugged landscapes, coastal scenes, animals nestled within their habitats, and expansive skies with shifting weather patterns. These elements allow me to explore the tension between geometric and organic forms, using color, light, shadow, and perspective to evoke memories and emotions. Painting itself is a meditative experience for me. When I work, my focus narrows and all distractions fade away, creating a space for calm contemplation. This state informs my art and invites viewers to connect with my pieces on both sensory and emotional levels. In my recent work, I have been experimenting with more intense and unexpected color choices — colors not usually found in nature — to emphasize natural and symbolic themes. I continue to emphasize dynamic brushwork that breathes energy into each composition. My goal is to create pieces that serve as portals into the interplay of serenity and movement within the natural world, encouraging viewers to deepen their relationship with both the environment and their own inner experiences.
