Coherent Corp. is significantly increasing its factory footprint in Sherman, adding to the region's burgeoning high-tech manufacturing sector as demand for artificial intelligence services continues to skyrocket.
The Saxonburg, Pennsylvania-based company said June 16 the $650 million expansion will quadruple wafer production capacity at its facility in the city near the Oklahoma border, located at 6800 S. U.S. 75.
Coherent will increase its manufacturing space within the factory from 70,000 square feet to 140,000 square feet, supported by a $50 million federal CHIPS Act award and $20 million from the state of Texas and the Sherman Economic Development Corp., according to the announcement. The overall campus currently measures about 650,000 square feet.
